How it Works:

The mammalian nervous system consists of a network of nerve cells that carry electric impulses. These impulses move at a speed of 290 mph and have a frequency of between 90 and 250 Hz. CALM-COW® works with electromagnetic impulses that match the speed and frequency of the animals system. Switching on the CALM-COW® after having inserted it into the animal's anus produces an electromagnetic field around the probe. Because the probe lies near the spinal column, coccyx, and thigh nerves, the electromagnetic signal finds a direct path to the brain. All signals transmitted from the peripheral nerves reach the brain simultaneously, overwhelming the brain's communication. Thanks to a natural self-defense mechanism, all signals originating in this body region are simply blocked out, and no signals are sent back. The effect is similar to too many phone calls being made to the same number - communication simply stops. When the probe is switched off, the brain starts to process the incoming signals once again and performs its work as if nothing had happened. The net effect is the animal is immobilized because the brain no longer sends motor signals to the immobilized region, resulting in a perfect anesthetization, and the brain can no longer process the pain signals emerging from the immobilized region.

Tests have shown a bull castrated with the CALM-COW® behaves as if no castration had taken place - he immediately starts his search for food after the operation as if nothing had happened. He is not even aware that he has been castrated!

Using the electronic unit.

The signal strength is controlled with a single button on the CALM-COW® and can be observed on the display, which shows the intensity on a scale of 0 to 99.

If the signal strength is set to maximum, the battery charge condition is displayed. 99 is equivalent to a full charge. If the display shows only 70-75, it is necessary to recharge the battery. The battery charge lasts for about 8 hour's of use. Because the unit  is only switched on during immobilization
of the animal, a battery charge lasts for up to 3 days even with heavy use.

The probe is inserted into the animal's anus. As soon as the impulse generator is activated (signal strength 0), the animal is already so immobilized
it can no longer deal a blow with its hooves. It is not necessary to continue to watch the display; it is sufficient to observe the animal's reaction. If the signal strength is slightly increased, the animal constricts and arches its spine. The animal is now immobilized and it is possible to carry out branding, castration, and any other kind of non-invasive operation (minor and medium surgery).
